Small Changes, Big Impact: How Hygiene Systems Is Beating Plastic Pollution
Introduction
Each year, World Environment Day highlights a pressing environmental challenge — and in 2025, that message is clear: Beat Plastic Pollution.
Plastic waste is overwhelming ecosystems, filling landfills, and damaging oceans. But change doesn't have to start with grand gestures. It can start with the simple, sustainable choices we make every day — especially in business.
At Hygiene Systems, we’ve embedded sustainability into every part of our operation. From packaging and paper to servicing and logistics, we believe it’s our responsibility to help reduce environmental harm and lead by example.
From Plastic to Paper: Smarter Packaging
One of the biggest changes we’ve made is switching from plastic to cardboard packaging wherever possible.
This not only reduces the volume of single-use plastic entering the supply chain, but also ensures our packaging is recyclable, biodegradable, and more easily managed at end of life. Our customers are already seeing the benefit in reduced waste and easier disposal.
FSC-Certified Paper Products
We’re proud to offer a full range of FSC-certified paper products, sourced from responsibly managed forests. Choosing FSC means supporting ethical forestry practices that protect biodiversity, local communities, and long-term sustainability.
Whether it’s paper hand towels, toilet paper, or sanitiser refills, we supply products that are better for the environment — without compromising on quality or performance.
Electric Vehicles: Future-Focused Transport
We’re also investing in low-emission delivery, trialling electric vehicles (EVs) in select regions to reduce our transport-related carbon output.
As this programme expands, we aim to transition more of our fleet to electric and hybrid options — a key step in lowering our overall emissions footprint.
Sustainable Servicing: A Quiet Revolution
For over two decades, we’ve led the industry in on-site servicing of sanitary bins. Unlike traditional models that rely on transporting full waste bins back to base, our approach is cleaner, safer, and far more environmentally responsible.
Our method:
Eliminates harsh chemicals Reduces fuel use and emissions from transport Minimises waste through refill and reuse systems This isn’t just a servicing model — it’s a sustainability strategy.
Why It Matters
Every change we’ve made — from packaging to servicing — is designed to reduce our environmental impact while improving the hygiene solutions we offer. We believe that sustainability and hygiene go hand in hand, and that businesses should never have to choose between doing what’s effective and doing what’s right.
What’s Next?
Our sustainability journey is ongoing. We’re continually reviewing our supply chain, product materials, and service models to find new ways to reduce waste, lower emissions, and deliver smarter hygiene solutions.
Because we believe in building more than just clean spaces — we’re committed to building a cleaner future.
